Git Up, Git Out – We did a 5K this morning!

This morning I woke up early with the intention of doing a little work (the kind that pays my bills) before starting the day. The baby also woke up soon after me and decided that he wanted to cuddle. I knew at that point I wasn’t going to have any peace, so we got up, got dressed and headed to the track.

The baby and I did a 5k (actually 3.5 miles)! He had his Cheerios in his cup, a cool breeze as I pushed his stroller along and plenty of people to watch, all this and he was good. I did miss my talking friends (I usually do 3 mile Thursdays here with Mocha Moms) but I thought about all the things I want/need to do and how I was getting fit, the time flew by.

Always wearing the headbands, I thought about how I need to make fitness important. I’m still debating about how to do the Disney Princess Half-Marathon (and even if I will) but I’m moving and happy about it. I don’t just want to be thin and lose weight but I want to be fit.

A few weeks ago, the kindergartner dusted circles around his father and I at his school’s Fun Run.  He did 2 miles in 30 minutes! His father did 1.5 and I only tried for 1. I probably could have done more but I was content to just hang out part of the time. I have to admit I am proud of him because without our doing it, he’s already becoming fit.

So in the words of OutKast, I’m getting up, getting out and doing something, I’m not letting the world pass me by*. I’m going to be fit! What about you? What are you doing to get fit?
*I heard this song on the way back from the track and thought it was the perfect start to the rest of my fitness journey. 🙂 It’s my new theme song.
Sidenote: Can you believe how young they look? Cee-lo looked real regular in this video. 🙂

Good for you Kendra! I started the Couch to 5K program in January and had registered for my first 5k for next weekend but it was cancelled. Bummer. Now I have to find another to register for. As the weather gets nicer it will be a lot easier to run outside – this summer’s made running outside difficult.

Keep up with your blogging Mama, you’re doing great!
